Chosen Family

At Tannen and Peter’s game changing wedding there was a lot of talk about their chosen family. Who are totally awesome side note. (Yes I’m talking to you Jory and Dan) This is some of my mine. I am so incredibly lucky to have found them. To Luz and Gaelle specifically, I love you so much although I may not say it all the time. You are my chosen family.

All film. All Kodak. Portra 400 and Tri-x.

Catherine Abegg - oh my … so very lovely! I love your Chosen Family as well, and can’t help but feel so much emotion towards your journey that has brought you here… to them. Love you lots, Jill!!! xo.

Rodrigo y Gabriela

I got an email a few weeks ago from a photo editor at the New York Times. I freaked out. The New York Times? For me that’s big. I have always had this dream to work for the Associated Press and travel the world documenting life, news you name it. Unfortunately for me magazines and newspapers have been on a downward slide combined with cell phones and personal photojournalism taking over. Actually it’s pretty fortunate for me because I love what I do and wouldn’t change it for the world and I get to shoot editorials like this on the side. For this assignment they needed someone to shoot two Mexican musicians who I also happen to be a fan of. Rodrigo y Gabriela are phenomenal guitar players who are incredibly famous internationally, but little known at home in Mexico. I traveled to their studio in Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo to shoot them for an article timed to print with the release of their new album Area 52 recorded with the band C.U.B.A. To read the Times article click here.

I’m not going to lie. I don’t think I could ever get tired of seeing Jillian Mitchell for the New York Times. Ever. Here are some shots of the studio and some outtakes from the shoot. I’m waiting on getting a hard copy of the paper brought down.

Game Changer

Sometimes you meet someone and you know it was meant to be.

The universe put you in the same place at the same time for a reason.

Words can not describe how I feel about being a part of Tannen and Peter’s lives. Last Saturday was (as Peter would say) a game changer. My life and career will be forever altered by being a part of their day. There is so much more to be said and lots of photos to be edited, but for now here are the polaroids we took around town together.

Game. Changer.

admin - As I said before I can not express how amazing it was to be a part of your wedding. I love you both.

tannen - You are part of our family forever. We could not be more grateful for who you are and the magic you brought to our day(s) in Mexico. Sigh. Can we do it all again? I wish we could do it all again.

Lindsay+Brady | Sayulita, Mexico

Lindsay and Brady got married at Villa del Oso in Sayulita. Besides the fact that they are both gorgeous they have equally amazing style. Lindsay wore Nicole Miller with Kate Spade shoes and Brady had a custom Ermenegildo Zegna suit which he rocked in the sun like it was nobody’s business. Wedding design and coordination was by the lovely Yazmin and Nierica of Sea of Dreams Weddings.

This wedding is also being featured on Jet Fete blog by the amazing Bridal Bar today so go take a look and leave some comment love!

Elizabeth+Kelly | Sayulita, Mexico

Elizabeth and Kelly were my kick off to a crazy fall wedding season and there couldn’t have been a better way to do it. It’s so hard to choose my favorite moment from this wedding. I don’t know if it was the awkward family photos, the break dancing, when Kelly’s almost brother-in-law started dancing to Put a Ring On It and didn’t realize there were only girls on the dance floor waiting for the bouquet to be tossed, or last, but definitely not least when Kelly’s sister caught said bouquet not once, but twice. So. Much. Fun. Wedding design and planning as always by the wonderful Sea of Dreams.
