For the most part my couples find me via word of mouth from past clients, but every now and then a random referral comes in and when this one did I nearly fell off of my chair. A fellow photographer who I had met at a photojournalism workshop in Guatemala referred me to Solange and Brian in Brooklyn. When Brian first wrote to me he mentioned that Solange is a fashion stylist at Paper Magazine which in and of itself is fantastic because you know a stylist’s wedding is going to be bangin’, but what got me was that Brian is a producer (now the head producer) of This American Life. If you don’t know what that is google it immediately. I have been listening to this radio show since I was a wee thing of 18 years old and my boyfriend had the box set of the first few seasons. We used to have it on continuously driving to New Hampshire from Massachusetts to go riding at Wildcat Mountain. Fast forward almost 20 years and now I listen to it every time I have to take the hour trip into Puerto Vallarta or am about to get on a plane. There’s nothing better to get you through airport travel than This American Life. film wedding photographer new york
So of course I was in and man I am so glad that I was. During the ceremony they played a This American Life style radio clip about their first encounter where they ran around in the rain drinking whiskey before going to an old bookstore where Solange recommend Brian buy the a volume of Edward P. Jones stories which subsequently was also the book they used to store their rings in for the wedding. Solange’s style was felt throughout the day from her Alessandra Rich dress with fringe (fringe!!) to the hanging flower atrium that she scoured the flower district for in the weeks counting down to the wedding. Everything was specifically curated for their wedding down to the last detail.film wedding photographer new york
This was and will continue to be one of my absolute favorite events I have ever been a part of and I can only hope the images below transport you to the magical fiesta of love that was Solange and Brian’s Bed-Stuy wedding.
